The Australian Education Union Policy adopted its policy on Gender Equity in May 2008. The Policy states that:
- gendered violence and sex-based harassment must be eliminated from all educational settings by teaching about the construction of gender, effective communication and relationship skills, conflict management and resolution skills with staff and students at preschools, schools and TAFE institutions;
- whole school approaches to identifying and eliminating gendered violence and disruptive behaviours are implemented so it does not become simply the responsibility of individuals in educational settings to deal with these issues;
- behavior management policies and strategies that are consistent with the principles of Gender Equity and that identify behaviours which inhibit the learning of girls and boys, young women and men are implemented. (p. 7-8)
